Cavalry Trumpet in E flat

This trumpet was salvaged from the wreck of the SS Pomeranian, torpedoed off Portland Bill—the southernmost point on the Isle of Portland in the English Channel—by the German submarine SM UC-77 in 1918. The trumpet was retrieved from the wreck by one Mr McDonnell, MM, BEM, while scuba diving in 1977. When it was recovered, the instrument was completely coated in barnacles and other encrustations. It was cleaned and returned to the Museum of Army Music in 1978.
